About Sonya Shaykhoun, Esq.

Sonya Shaykhoun is a native New Yorker who grew up between Manhattan and Southampton, Long Island, with an Irish mother and Egyptian father. Her parents instilled manners and etiquette in her from an early age. Sonya's mother went to finishing school in Switzerland and passed that knowledge on to Sonya and her two siblings.Sonya attended the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, after attending The Dalton School, NY and St. Stephen's, Rome. After four years at St. Andrews, Sonya went down to London to study Arabic and Law at SOAS, University of London. This opened the door for her to work as a NY-attorney in Bahrain and Qatar, where she held senior roles in global iconic companies, navigating global jobs, negotiated multi-million-dollar and multi-billion-dollar contracts (often simultaneously), and handled sensitive investigations and projects. Sonya has an LL.M. in Corporate and Commercial Law and an LL.M. in Corruption, Law and Governance. In Sonya's world, integrity is paramount.Sonya not only has book smarts, but she has street smarts, having had her share of life difficulties - from regularly moving around the world by herself from a young age to shifting jobs and quickly adapting to demanding jobs in commercial satellites and commercial aviation respectively to getting herself and others out of tricky life and/or professional situations (like representing herself in Qatar against bad faith employers and winning).Sonya's many years in rarified environments in far-flung places has taught her the importance of situational awareness, adaptability, discretion and grit.Sonya has nerves of steel and is a recognized senior lawyer, problem solver, and - as the oldest daughter - a lifetime of experience as "the family manager."Sonya speaks English, Arabic, and French, rides horses, plays tennis, and loves red wine.Sonya was awarded an honorary ladyship in 2011.
